[Men's Indoor Track & Field] Dewayne Gray finishes 18th in one of the fastest fields at NAIA

Comments

Spring Arbor University's Dewayne Gray came into the NAIA National Indoor Championships seeded 11th and shooting to improve his personal best time of 21.90 in the 200m.  Gray, a senior, running in his final Indoor championship felt he had a legitimate chance to better that time and perhaps a spot on the podium.

The field of runners this year was fast.  Very fast!  Gray posted a time of 22.18 and finished 18th.  Admittedly, Gray did not have a great race and the 22.18 might not have qualified him for the finals, even if it the field wasn't as fast as it was.

"I am very proud of Dewayne, said Coach Dante Ottolini.  "The way he has worked for four years and prepared and matured as an athlete and person is off the charts.  I wanted for that to pay off for him with a trip to the finals and All-American honors. "I watched Dewayne during his warm up shake the hands of all his competitors and then go over to the officials.  How Dewayne does what he does makes him a champion.  Our training focus all along has been to prepare for outdoor, so we will start on Monday and Dewayne is coming in for a hard workout.
